l.c.c.’s Vision: A Job Done Right!
Due to our efforts in the medical marijuana advocacy movement, we envision what we need to establish here in Stockton. We need a regulated transparent dispensary that not only provides a variety of the best medicines for illnesses at a reasonable price, but we need a dispensary that operates in a true mutual benefit manner by providing needed and crucial patient services that also increases the quality of life for members.
Outlined is what we envision in a regulated transparent medical marijuana dispensary:
Medicine:
We all know that there is a prevalent need to have safe access allowed by Proposition 215, but what does safe really mean in that context? Safety in consumable medicines? Safety in and at the facility? Safety from needless prosecution? We believe that all these questions are important and we believe that a dispensary will provide the best safety in all these areas.
First and foremost, a customer support focused educated staff will know the best strains for most all illnesses. For example, strains best for chronic pain will vary from strains best for multiple sclerosis. Since a dispensary is for medical marijuana patients, a dispensary has a duty to be educated about all the benefits of cannabis and to know which strains suit various conditions; moreover to educate the safest ways to medicate.
Secondly, we feel a dispensary will provide a secure location that patients can feel safe and at ease utilizing the facility. Additionally, we also feel that a dispensary should promote a culture that is positive, caring, supportive and helpful. Too many dispensaries feel underground and shady. We envision a dispensary that is uplifting to visit and exudes a positive energy at all times.
Safety from needless prosecution would be achieved by working with the City of Stockton to ensure that the dispensary operates in strict compliance with the law and takes legitimate steps to avoid divergence and resale. With a dispensary that is committed to stop illegal activity spurned by its own operation, the City can feel at ease that the dispensary is operating in accordance with the law. A legitimate dispensary will ensure that those concerns of the City of Stockton never come to fruition. This will help ensure that patients do not need to worry about utilizing the dispensary for their right given by the Compassionate Use Act and Proposition 215.
To us, safety is still more though and there is also a safety concern with the quality of medicines. A dispensary needs to ensure that all medicines are tested and free from contaminates such as, mold, chemicals, insects, and pesticides. We envision a dispensary that not only tests the medicines to be contaminate free, but also produces completely organic chemical free medicines for members.
A dispensary will help educate on the best ways to ingest medicines and what are the most beneficial methods for various conditions. A great dispensary will help people navigate these types of questions. In the end, a dispensary that legally offers a wide variety of the best contaminate free medicines and at a reasonable cost to educated patients is the first step, but only one of many.
Member Services:
By the attorney general’s guidelines medical marijuana dispensaries must be a non profit collective or cooperative. There are many dispensaries in the state, but how many really help their members with additional needed services? We see it as crucial for a dispensary to be a social organization that offers free member services like various support groups, grow classes, physical therapy, various forms of massage, yoga, acupuncture, nutrition, and other needed member services.
A dispensary needs to encourage a culture that improves the quality of life for its members. The best dispensary will not be static and will reach out to the members to ascertain what will help the most. At the same time, the dispensary will constantly research in ways to improve current member services.
While our vision includes these previous sections, we do in fact see a dispensary being much more. By offering the best consistent variety of medicines and services, if operating costs are kept down, and salaries are reasonable, there is a source of much revenue to be achieved. Many qualified patients will come to such a dispensary. And where does the money go? This is where we know we can change the business model of dispensaries.
We see a dispensary returning substantial net profits directly back to the community. We all know the view by outsiders about Stockton. Murder, crime, foreclosure, gangs, a city rampant with drugs like meth, crack, and heroin, to just name a few negative synonymous titles we have earned.
But Stockton is much more. We have a rich history, the best agriculture, underused deep water ways, centrally located to places like Santa Cruz, Tahoe, San Francisco, the foothills, and Yosemite. My favorite is no traffic. But more importantly there are many great people living here. Stockton is our home, where our kids go to school, a community we believe we can make a better place. By supporting local non profit organizations, collectively utilizing man power, and by deeply caring about our community, a well run dispensary will make a difference.
We see establishing recreational facilities for kids to be just that—kids; a place that kids want to frequent, a safe, drug, and violence free place. The kind of facilities that give kids options other than dropping out of school or joining gangs. A place to study, play sports, recreate, and to be artistic. We feel that crime truly begins for kids when our children’s options are limited.
Additionally, we know that hard drugs play a detrimental role in our community. Therefore, we are dedicated to promoting established drug prevention programs and to effectively help educate the pitfalls of drug use and abuse. To us, the medical marijuana user, marijuana is not a drug; it’s an incredible and beneficial medicine that improves the quality of lives. Nonetheless, we know many use marijuana recreationally. We do not condone nor support the use of this organic non toxic plant for adults to use recreationally. A responsible dispensary will not be a catalyst to recreational users obtaining cannabis.
A dispensary will help change the stereotype of marijuana here in our community and to stand up to hard drugs like meth, crack, and heroin.
A dispensary will support the elderly and take a stance against elderly abuse. Our elders have already walked down the path many of us travel upon. They do deserve our help and respect. Many elderly people have serious illness and many take a chemical cocktail of prescription drugs. We are not doctors and do not think we know better. We do think a dispensary can help though. Quality of life doesn’t stop being needed when you retire. Through collective endeavors a dispensary can make a better world for our elders here in Stockton.
Another endeavor is community gardens. We see people getting out of their house and walking, perhaps with their children, perhaps with their dog, going to a local community garden and growing their own fresh vegetables, herbs (non cannabis), and fruits. We see the ability for all to be a part of the community, talking with friends and neighbors, while relaxing, cultivating, and putting fresh food on the table.
We know the best dispensary in our state will give back tremendously to the community in many ways. A dispensary that consistently provides the best medicines and service to its members while it also evolves and grows to make our community a better place to live is a very lofty goal. A goal l.c.c. knows it can achieve if a permit can be acquired. l.c.c is going about it the right way, working in a non adversarial manner, trying to get the job done right!
